21 year old aspiring pastry chef. Working in the kitchen and preparing delicious food had always been her dream and she pursued that by learning culinary arts and graduating in the same. She later realised that her heart belonged in the patisserie department and she chose to stick to that. By working in the Pink Truck Kitchen, under Riya she is chasing her dream of baking delicious baked goods and feeding them to people (no matter how fattening that are). In her free time you will always find her head buried into books or she's too engrossed in watching cat videos because she's a crazy cat lady.
She grew up watching her sister bake cakes and cookies and she loved being part of the making process and was fascinated by it. Being a food and dessert lover, she aspires to be a skilful baker in baking pastries, cookies, pies and cakes that will fill every soul who has penchant for sweet treats. Although she has been baking for approx three years, she's sure she can make up for her lack of experience with vigour and enthusiasm and continue to grow her passion for baking with Riya. In her free time you’ll find her drawing mandalas and zentangles or binge watching Korean dramas on Netflix.
At The Pink Truck, we have one basic aim- to spread joy through our cakes and desserts. Imagine a bunch of happy fairies, if you will, scuttling around with sugar, butter, dough and all sorts of edible cheer. We strive to make that moment when you bite into our cake, the best damn moment of your day. That’s the whole point of cake- it brings people together, it’s the life of a party or occasion and hence, it should taste nothing short of perfect.
In pursuit of this, we wanted to involve our customers in the creative process and that led to- (can we give it a name or word- the customized cakes? So it becomes an association word of sorts). Play around, be unique, design the cake of your dreams and then- let us execute it for you!
It all started in 2011 when Riya made an impulse decision to buy an oven. Baking for personal joy eventually led to baking experiments for friends and family and then- there was no looking back.
With love and encouragement from family and friends, 2014 saw the inception of- The Pink Truck! A few orders a month grew into a few orders a week. While maintaining a full time job, numerous sleepless nights were spent whisking, baking and decorating. The end result however, was always worth the effort and work. Riya then decided to get professional training and signed up for classes at the Polka Dots Cakes Academy and Wisk by Cakesmiths, Kala Ghoda.
March of 2017, she finally decided to leave her 6 year old job behind and dive head first into pursuing baking as a full-time career. This led to her feature in the first season of Grilled on Fox Life, where she finished as a semi-finalist. To take her journey up a notch, Riya then enrolled at the Lavonne Academy, Bangalore for a diploma course. In order to gain some experience after the course, she interned at The Bombay Canteen for a month. She then decided to give teaching a shot and became a chef instructor at Polka Dots Cakes Academy.
Things were in place, she was happy with how she was growing, but something was still amiss. She missed the joy that came from The Pink Truck and feeding people delicious cake and alas- it was back in business. This time, with a fresh new avatar and a surge in passion. It has been quite a journey to where we are today. However, what sparks in us a giddy sense of excitement is the road ahead and all the joy we hope to spread through our delicious cakes and desserts!
Her love affair with sweets started at a really young age with kalakand and kaju katli. After not finding good dessert options in the city, she took up baking for herself. One thing led to another and The Pink Truck was born. Growing this with the love and support of friends and family, she finally left her corporate life of 6 years behind, to make food her sole focus. She went on to become a contestant on season 1 of Grilled, on Fox life, reaching the semi finals. Soon after, she went on to get her Diploma from Lavonne in Pastry and Baking. She believes that food should move you, and an average dessert is simply unacceptable. Her perfect night would involve board games, cupcakes and doggos!
